Encouragement for a new apprentice

If you're reading this, chances are you're thinking about making a change.

Maybe you've already applied. Maybe you're still deciding. Maybe you're excited. Maybe you're nervous. Most people are a little of both.

The truth is, change is hard.

Even when we know we need it. Even when we know it could lead to something better.

There is comfort in staying where we are, even when where we are isn't working. The familiar has a way of convincing us to stay put. Taking a step into something new means uncertainty. It means risk. It means admitting that we want more for ourselves than what we've settled for.

That takes courage.

What we've learned at The Sow Project is that most people don't overcome fear because they suddenly become fearless. They overcome fear because they decide something else matters more.

For some, it's their children.

For others, it's a spouse, a parent, a grandparent, or a friend who has never stopped believing in them.

Sometimes it's simply looking in the mirror and deciding you're ready to become the person you know you're capable of being.

Whatever brought you here, hold onto it.

There will be days when you're tired. Days when learning feels difficult. Days when showing up feels easier said than done. When those moments come, remember why you started.

Remember the people who love you.

Remember the people who want to see you succeed.

Remember the person you're trying to become.

At The Sow Project, we can teach knife skills, cooking techniques, food safety, baking, and hospitality. We can help you prepare for interviews and connect you with employers. We can help create opportunities.

What we can't do is want it more than you do.

The good news is that you don't have to do it alone.

This program was built because we understand that talent is only part of the equation. People need support. They need guidance. They need someone in their corner when life gets difficult. They need a team that believes they can succeed, even on the days they may not believe it themselves.

That is our commitment to you.

We will challenge you.

We will hold you accountable.

We will expect your best effort.

But we will also support you, encourage you, and walk alongside you throughout the process.

The goal isn't simply to complete a program.

The goal is to build something nobody can take away from you.

Confidence. Skills. Experience. A trade. A career.

The ability to support yourself and the people you care about.

Those things have value far beyond the classroom.

Trust the process! Show up!

Stay open to learning. Be patient with yourself.

Growth rarely happens all at once.

One day you'll look back and realize that the hardest part wasn't learning to cook, learning to bake, or learning to work in a professional kitchen.

The hardest part was deciding to begin. We're glad you're here.

Let's get to work.
