The Sow Project Partners with IOTA Community Schools, Creating New Culinary Program

The Sow Project, the flagship workforce development program of the Center for Culinary Cultivation (CCC), is proud to announce a new partnership with IOTA Community Schools that will introduce a dedicated culinary program for high school seniors. This collaboration brings together two organizations with one shared belief: young people deserve real opportunities, real skills, and a real chance to shape their future.

This program is designed with intention. Students will spend six months immersed in a hands-on culinary experience that blends classroom learning with practical kitchen training, mentorship from working Memphis chefs and culinary leaders, and an introduction to sustainable practices that matter in today’s food world. It’s the type of learning we wish every young person had access to, accessible, meaningful, and connected to real jobs and long-term opportunities.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome these students into a space where they can learn, grow, and find their voice,” said Ben Vaughn, Founder and CEO of The Sow Project. “Our goal is simple: give students the kind of high-quality education and support that makes them believe in what’s possible. When they walk into our kitchen, we want them to feel like their future is worth investing in.”

The IOTA Community Schools Culinary Program will launch in January, right after the holiday break. Ten seniors will take part in this first cohort, setting the foundation for what we believe will grow into a powerful, long-term partnership.

“We’re thrilled for our students to gain immersive experiences with The Sow Project,” said IOTA Managing Director of Extended Programs Kavarica McCurry. “This partnership gives our young people not just culinary training, but a chance to express creativity, learn discipline, and engage with their community in a meaningful way.”
