Many of our students arrive at The Sow Project searching for a new path. They’ve faced challenges and know firsthand what it feels like to be overlooked or shut out of traditional employment systems. We strive to give them the skills, support, and confidence to step into the workforce and thrive.

The best part is – their story doesn’t end when they graduate. In many ways, it’s only the beginning. When our students gain their footing in a professional kitchen, they see it both as a personal win and as a chance to help others make it through their own roadblocks.

Skills that travel – and stay local

Our graduates leave with a deep understanding of workplace professionalism, financial literacy, and mental health resilience. These tools make them valuable as employees, community members, mentors, and future leaders.

Many alumni stay in their respective communities, working in restaurants, catering businesses, hotels, and corporate kitchens. Their influence shapes local food culture and strengthens the hospitality workforce. Others take their skills further afield, spreading The Sow Project’s ethos of care and excellence wherever they go.

Kasey and Lauren, for example, are Sow Project students who recently staged at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Georgia. Their journeys show what’s possible when talent is nurtured and given a chance to shine. Whether they return to Memphis or continue working nationally, they remain ambassadors for the power of second chances and skilled training.
